‘Where’s the Beef?’ Or should we say something more like, ‘where’s the training?’ A lot of schools out there subscribe to the, ‘Get ’em in, and get ’em out mentality’…. All the way down to offering only half hour long classes. Only a half hour long??? If you figure in a ten minute warm up, some instruction (hopefully some instruction) a form or two (mostly that’s it), what are you left with?
Answer:
Not much.
Martial arts training involves discipline, time on task, and direct practical skill training with cooperative and non-cooperative partners (not just follow the leader forms, or predictable sparring patterns) There are no short cuts to developing martial skill, especially if you require the skill to truly protect yourself or loved ones.
This idea of ‘get a black belt in two years, training twice a week for 30 minutes a class’ would be fully laughable to masters, teachers and students of just a few years ago (and it still is to those who take their training serious).
We don’t subscribe to that. We are not a ‘fast food’ martial arts school, looking to promote false confidence and bolster our bank account. We are more like a five star gourmet dining experience where you want to stay and savor every last bite.
What we do subscribe to are class lengths that allow students to get the full experience of tradition, forms, two person drills, and applicable combat skills. We subscribe to extending our reach beyond kicking and punching to leadership and personal power. We extend beyond being just classmates to becoming family. And we most certainly extend beyond 30-40 minute get ’em in, get ’em out training mentality.
If you are looking for a school that actually cares about quality and time on task… We’ll be right here, as we’ve always been for over a decade, ready to serve you up a real martial arts experience.
And yes, while our classes are longer, most agree that they feel much shorter, because after all, time flies when you are having fun.
Ready to give it a try?
Good.
